Seasons - 1930/31-1939/40 United controversially beat Arsenal in the 1932 Cup Final before getting relegated two years later. They failed to negotiate a path back and only missed out on relegation to the Third Division by 1/10 of a goal. United needed a saviour and turned to former player Stan Seymour.
