United reached the FA Cup final for the fourth time in six seasons and finaly they won. As in 1908 they faced Second Division opposition in Barnsley and oce again they failed yo win at Sydenham.
But this time they got a draw and adopted a much more physical approach to win 2-0 in the replay.
A comparitively disappointing League campaign saw United fail to win on a consistent basis and finish in 4th for the fourth time in six seasons.
Albert Shepherd got both the goals in the replay and thus became the first United player to top the 30 goal mark in a season.
Four of his goals came in the first half of the match at Liverpool but he still ended up on the losing side as the scousers came back from a 5-2 interval deficit to win 6-5.
Attendances dropped slightly but United were still a great draw and the match at Chelsea attracted a new League record attendance of 70,000
Wilf Low arrived at the end of the previous campaign to start a long and successful career on Tyneside.
