The New Year starts in great style as United win four, draw one and rach the FA Cup 5th Round.
Friday 01 Jan 1988 - Nottm F [A] - D1- Won 2-0
United recorded a great result against second placed Forest with a performance of determination and skill with Gazza at the fore. The Dunston dazzler opened the scoring in the first half and Mira raced half away across the pitch to seal the victory just before the end.

Saturday 23 Jan 1988 - Tottenham [H] - D1 - Won 2-0

Newcastle thrash Swindon 5-0 to head for the FA Cup 5th Round
The result would prove to be much more significant than one thought. Swindon had just beaten Sunderland in the play-off finals but the Wiltshire club were relegated to the 3rd and The Wearsiders took their place in the First.
United finish the month in 15th.
