A battling draw against Nottingham Forest in the Second Round of the League Cup was followed by four successive wins.
Newly promoted Carlisle visited SJP and put up a defensive blanket that frustrated United for most of the game. The crowd demanded the introduction of substitute "Jinky" and it was he who laid on the winner for Tudor with three minutes left on the clock
United then came from behind (Glen Keeley - as was his wont - scoring an own goal ) against struggling QPR to record their first away victory before seeing off Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the League Cup replay
The final game saw us taking on League leaders Ipswich and beating them despite a resilient, defensive performance from Bobby Robson's side.United's excellent run of form had lifted them to 6th place.
United also travelled to Aberdeen to play the first leg of the Second Round Texaco Cup tie; they returned with a 1-1 draw.
