Another busy month with six games crammed into the last 16 days. It was also somewhat of a disaster as - with a fit defender proving to be as elusive as Lord Lucan - we lost four games in a row before drawing twice; it left us marooned in 14th.
Before the League games we entertained Brazilians SC Internacional who had won all their previous seven games on their European tour. They had no trouble maintaining their record with an easy three goal win.
The first League game of the month saw a crazy game at Portman Road where a patched up United side - including 17 year old debutant McCaffrey - lost a nine goal thriller 4-5. More controversial decisions had Harvey claiming "this club is jinxed. We are not meant to win anything"
The next three games saw United crash 0-3 to Arsenal (in front of only 16,540 spectators at Highbury), 0-2 at home to (eventual champions) Derby despite dominating the game and 4-0 against a Keegan inspired Liverpool.
Despite this dreadful run over 6000 fans travelled to Elland Road where United took a surprise lead after only 62 seconds. They dominated the first half against a tired Tykes team (who had played an FA Cup match only 48 hours earlier) and hit the woodwork twice. But in the second half the Yorkshiremen came back into it and grabbed a deserved equaliser.
QPR visited SJP on the last day of the month and secured a 2-2 draw.
Micky Burns had lost his place in the side and when he was asked to play for the reserves against Derby he refused leading a furious Harvey to state that he would never play for the club again.
