Occasionally spectacularly brilliant, sometimes agonisingly incompotent, but always totally entertaining: Pav was a true geordie spirit.
He was only 22 when Jim Smith signed him from Banik Ostrava but the Eagle had departed before he was handed his debut three months later. He kept a clean sheet that game but this was to be a rare occurrence in the future
During the following years the popular Czech occaional lapses saw him losing his place in the side but he always seemed to bounce back until finally losing out to Shay Given in the 1997/98 season.
When injury hit Shay Given in 2006/07, Pav made a sentimental return and came on as sub in the home victory over Spurs for a final appearance for the club.
