Spurs have won 41% of all games whilst Newcastle have won 37% and 22% have been drawn.

The Londoners have a better than average record on Tyneside having won almost a third of the matches and at home they have won over half.

It didn't start that with as the Londoners only won 1 out of the first 15 games.

Our recent form against Spurs is better than against any other team; in the last 14 games United have won an impressive 10 and have won the last 5.

But there have been periods when we've had some really poor runs of results; notably in the 1950s and 1980s

FA Cup

Our first games against The Lillywhites were in the FA Cup in 1905 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The plucky amateurs forcing United to a replay when they were soundly beaten 4-0. United were to make their first visit to the Final that year.

In 1935 a crowd of 61,195 saw Spurs win the FA Cup Fourth Round meeting.

They met again in the Fourth Round at Tottenham in 1952 and 69,009 witnessed a classic performance by cup holders United in a 3-0 victory. The Magpies went on to win The Cup.

A quarter of a century later and the clubs met in London in the Fifth Round. United were struggling and a Clive Allen penalty settled the issue.

The last three ties have all resulted in The Magpies progressing.

In 1999 it was 2-0 in the semi-final, a year later and United won 6-1 at SJP after a 1-1 draw in North London (Round 3) and in 2005 it was 1-0.

League Cup

We have only met one in the ; Newcastle winning the two-legged semi-final 3-2 on aggregate in 1975/76.

The season after United's heaviest defeat there was a reversal of fortunes.

Newcastle 7 Spurs 1

Keegan originally claimed that the look on Spurs manager Gerry Francis' face was enough to make him resign as United blasted out of a wobbly spell.

Shearer, Ferdinand and Lee all grabbed braces with Albert weighing in with one more. Only a sparkling performance by Walker in the Spurs nets prevented further embarrassment.

Worst Defeat

D1 - 18th Nov 1950

Tottenham would win the Championship this season and they destroyed United at White Hart Lane

Arthur Rowe's side were in scintillating form on a slippery surface and led 3-0 at the break.

Four more followed although United did hit the post twice and were reduced to 10 men after the fifth following an injury to McMichael.
