The Magpies definitely hold the upper hand over The Rams. Overall United have won 42%, Derby have won 31% and 27% have been drawn.

This is mainly due to United's unusually good away record on their travels where they have won almost a third of the games.

It wasn't always that way; up until the mid 1920's Derby had the better record and it wasn't until the immediate Post WW11 period that United really took command when they had an unbeaten run which lasted until the late sixties.

The baseballers bounced back in the 70's and 80's before Newcastle once again were ascendant.

FA Cup

The clubs have been drawn together six times in the FA Cup, United winning four of the ties.

The most memorable clash was in the 1923/24 season when United finally saw off the Second Division Rams 5-3 at SJP after three 2-2 draws.

Firsts

United's first ever game against Derby was the 3-0 defeat at Derby in the 1898/99 season.

Newcastle's first win came in the return game that season
